these prints are not how they appear...

some of my favourite pieces from the Whitworths, 'The walls are talking' exhibition, these digitally printed wallpapers looked interesting and intricate from afar, but on closer look many had suggestive images, bodies, genitals and wombs that all related to conception and childbirth. one of the best exhibitions I have seen in a while, good to see examples of what I'm doing in my own work.

Swing tag ideas...

Inspiration for my collection- quirky prints on sharp suits, a-la-DKNY.

Love the mix up of smart tailoring with playful prints, the shapes are easily wearable for day or night, give a sort of sexy twist on an androgynous look. a perfect city look.

illustrating my ideas..keeping it fluid, movement.

With these illustrations i was just experimenting with different ways of displaying my design ideas/prints..I was playing around with different poses, to display this 'quick change', reversibility. i think as well as having my figures in movement, it would be interesting to create a kind of shift within the background, ie, city scapes, bars clubs, night life.day-night.

print ideas...Reverse side. Abstract, for nightime, playtime.

Work wear print ideas..

Miniature lamppost print,
really like this idea as the lamposts are almost unrecognisable from afar, look like delicate florals, but realistically there just everyday 'mundane' objects from our environment. would work well for day as the pattern is subtle, yet had that quirky edge.

print ideas for daywear/workwear

Ant pintstripe:

Birdie check, black on dark plum, striped cotton.
liking the dark colours together, although my screens are given me a crisp enough print, may try this check with digital print.

More screenprints...

stripes against 'birdie' checks.

screenprint samples...

polycotton...
whilst out doing some market research, I came across a printed top in Zara, which used polycotton, its thin thickness meant there was a lighter variation of the design on the back of the top, which looked really effective, these are some of my experiments with polycotton.

Reversible print ideas...

reversible prints: experimenting with small scale prints, creating the illusion of smaller checks,patterns..contrasted with the larger abstract print..painstrokes..using shades from the same pallette to keep some connection between the two.

Fairtrade Fashion.

This piece is from the collection Asos Africa, use organically sourced cotton and all fabrics are designed and then sourced from small communities in Africa, providing jobs for many. Its great to see a company create such ethical fashion pieces and not scrimp on the design/colour and the print..the significance of the cultural influence also means you can look stylish but also give a little something back.

visual inspirations...

Damien Hirst's stain-glass windows using beetle shells and butterfly wings..What I love most about his pieces are that they are like optical illusions, from afar they appear beautiful but when taking a closer look you discover there insects, objects we would disregard and label 'ugly/disgusting'.
